Hey Porter Wins Stretch Battle In Philly Feature

Harness racing at Harrah's Philadelphia

They were three-across the track at the finish of the $19,014 conditioned trot for developing horses on Thursday, Nov. 20 at Harrah’s Philadelphia, with the three-year-old gelding Hey Porter taking advantage of the perfect trip to catch determined pacesetter Moni Buys Happynes by a quarter-length.

Tim Tetrick, who drove four winners before heading to Dover for twilight action, got the winner away in the pocket behind the filly Moni Buys Happynes (Jonathan Ahle), who laid down fractions of :27.4, :57.3, and 1:26.3. She contended with the first-over Clear For Landing (Simon Allard), who had won four of his last six, by the third station. The leader withstood the outside pressure, but Hey Porter still had a full tank, and he went up the inside to prevail by a quarter-length while taking a new mark of 1:55. Clear For Landing was another half-length back in third.

Hey Porter had been winless in 2025, though he had eight top-three finishes to his credit while racing against Pennsylvania and Midwest stakes company. Here he made the seasonal breakthrough in his debut for trainer Jeff Cullipher and Pollack Racing LLC. The son of Bar Hopping-Chelsees A Winner, now five-for-23 lifetime, paid $3 to win.

There were also two $16,901 conditioned trots for horses just below the feature level. The quicker split went to the Googoo Gaagaa-Donato Fashion three-year-old gelding Yardbird, who has now won two of three recent races since putting on the trotting hopples not long ago. Here he grinded uncovered from mid-backstretch and worked by pacesetting Dws Lady Diva (George Napolitano Jr.) by a length in 1:59. Elegant Dance (Steve Smith) was third. Patrick Ryder did the sulkysitting behind the winner for trainer Jim Groff, who co-owns the gelding with Jeff Dorn.

The other sub-feature went to the Cantab Hall-Nicoles Promise sophomore colt Hatfield, winning in his second start for owner P T Stable and trainer Bob Belcher. Hatfield was sent to the lead by George Napolitano Jr. and held his advantage throughout to win in 1:59.1, with favoured Entertain Me (Niko Karna) again having just a little too far to close. He was 1-1/4 lengths behind the winner but won a three-horse picture for place over Pa Rocket (Wayne Long).

In the $15,493 conditioned trot for fast-class horses, Benjamin Hanover, the heavy favourite, cut the mile and warded off a sturdy stretch bid by the 39-1 three-year-old Scudo Hanover (Ahle) by a quarter-length in 1:53. White Shoe Hanover (Tyler Miller) completed the ticket. Tetrick, the meet’s leading driver, was in the sulky behind Benjamin Hanover, an altered five-year-old son of Sebastian K S-By A Neck Hanover who is trained by Scott Di Domenico for owner Angela Cornell.

Harrah’s Philly hosts its next card on Friday at 12:25 p.m., with the third and final preliminary round of the series for $10,000 USD claiming pacers going in five $8,000 USD divisions. No horse was able to take wins in both of the first two legs. There will be Sunday racing at 12:40 p.m., and then Philly will be dark on Thanksgiving Thursday and Friday before returning to action on Sunday, Nov. 30 – and featuring the $12,500 USD championship of the series for claimers.
