Tetrick Sweeps DSBF Prelims At Dover

Just Applause

Tim Tetrick drove both second-round winners in the Delaware Standardbred Breeders' Fund (DSBF) series for two-year-old pacing fillies on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Bally's Dover, teaming Just Applause to a sweep of her preliminary events in the first $28,169 split and narrowly prevailing with Odds On Put Option in the second.

Coming off a 2-1/4-length win in the first round, Just Applause was sent off as the 1-9 favourite in her second-round division, and the Hes Watching-Rock Me Baby filly delivered with a comfortable 1:55.4 score. After cutting splits of :28.3, :57.4 and 1:27.1, Just Applause gradually extended her lead over pocket-sitting Meemaws Column (Russell Foster) through the far turn, winning by 4-3/4 lengths. Philly View (Allan Davis) finished third, another neck back.

Linda Toscano trains four-time winner Just Applause, who paid $2.10 across the board, for the partnership of Let It Ride Stables and breeder Carl Howard. The filly has $71,983 in earnings through eight starts.

In the other section, Tetrick and Odds On Put Option secured a pocket ride behind 1-2 favourite Warrens Charm (Art Stafford Jr.) through a :28.1 quarter and drafted through middle splits of :58 and 1:27.2. Odds On Put Option then edged off the pegs midway through the far turn to grind down the pacesetter and prevail by a nose in the final yards of a lifetime-best 1:55.2 mile. Lovers Cay (Montrell Teague) finished third.

Scott DiDomenico trains Odds On Put Option, who paid $5.20 to win as the 8-5 second choice, for Odds On Racing. The daughter of Hes Watching-Odds On Hollywood is three-for-six with $65,911 in earnings.

In addition to dual-leg winner Just Applause and single-leg winners Odds On Put Option and Warrens Charm, the following fillies have qualified for the $110,000 USD DSBF series final, to be contested next Wednesday: Meemaws Column, Philly View, Moms Vision, Nickis Watching and Watch Sparks Fly.

Disturbed Hanover surged late off a long uncovered move and pulled off a major shocker at 31-1 for driver Barton Dalious in the $35,211 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace.

Sparks were flying early when Ragtime Red and driver Trae Porter aggressively parked the even-money favourite Jett Propelled (Tetrick) and Huntress (Allan Davis), who was three-wide into the first turn. Huntress cleared to the lead past the quarter in :26.3, but Ragtime Red started another skirmish and was at the throat of Huntress through the half in :54.4.

Ragtime Red stormed past a tiring Huntress and opened up a cushion at the three-quarters in 1:23.1, but the outer tier was in flight. Disturbed Hanover raced first-over into second chasing Ragtime Red and rocketed in the stretch to catch that rival by a neck for a 1:52.1 victory. Ragtime Red was a game second with Incaseyoudidntknow (Jim Morand) third.

Disturbed Hanover is owned by The Wiz Kids Stable LLC and trained by W. Bart Dalious. The nine-year-old daughter of Big Jim-Driven To Sin won for the 41st time in 206 career outings and has now earned $706,985. She paid $64.60 for the win.

Tetrick and Pat Berry scored driving triples on the 15-race card.

All eyes will be on Bally’s Dover on Thursday with two $35,000 USD Progress Pace eliminations for three-year-old pacers. The top four horses in each elimination will vie for the $250,000 USD Progress Pace Final on Nov. 26. The $110,000 USD DSBF Final for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings is scheduled as the eighth race.
