Irvine Achieves 1,000th Career Victory
Justin Irvine recorded his 1,000th win milestone on Sunday (Nov. 16) evening at MGM Northfield Park, winning with Ponda Model off a gate-to-wire trip in a $12,676 conditioned pace for fillies and mares.
Irvine teamed up with Kent Sherman's Ponda Model from the rail in the field of eight and he protected his pylon position as he took command of the field swiftly. After the :28.1 quarter, Ponda Model maintained a 1-1/2 length lead through the :58.2 half and 1:27.3 three quarters. Down the stretch, Irvine and Ponda Model opened up to a 3-1/4 length triumph at the wire with the mile timed in 1:57. Western Skye (Beau Brown) was second with Pace N Boots (Aaron Merriman) third.
John De Santis owns the three-year-old daughter of Rockin Image and the Western Ideal mare Mikeleh. She paid $4.80 to win as the bettors' choice.
Irvine has over $10.5 million in career earnings to go along with his 1,000 career wins.
