Charmbo Stormy Thunders To Dominant Preferred Win
Charmbo Stormy, perhaps predictably, took to the wet track at Flamboro Downs on Saturday, Nov. 15, crushing eight rivals in the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace over a surface labelled good for her second straight win.
Samuel Fillion had the mare firing on all cylinders into the first turn to get her past Stag Royal (Garrett Rooney) and onto the front with :27.1 pace to the quarter. She was never threatened from there, maintaining a cushion through middle fractions of :56.4 and 1:25 and cruising to a 1:54.4 victory by 3-1/2 lengths. Prescelto (Jeff Hunt) took second off a final-turn move, followed by Ladyterra (Mark MacDonell).
Charmbo Stormy has won back-to-back Preferreds by open lengths for trainer Jared Mann and is now 12-for-35 on the year. The seven-year-old daughter of Sportswriter-Charmbo Lucky has accrued $227,939 in lifetime earnings with 28 wins in 149 races. Mann co-owns her with Ronald Nobes of Fergus, Ont. Charmbo Stormy returned $2.70 at the mutuels.
Francis Guillemette sent out a third of the winners on the nine-race program, teaming up with driver Jay Harris to win with Rockford Peach at 42-1 in the third race, La Petite Grise ($6.60) in the sixth, and Sportys Big Craze ($5) in the seventh. The trainer has won 120 times this season, a new personal best, and is striking at a 21.6 per cent rate. He is second only to Jodie Cullen, Canada’s top dash-winning trainer, in the Flamboro standings.
