Cold Creek Fuego Repeats In Harvest Series

Cold Creek Fuego winning at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Cold Creek Fuego was a repeat winner in the Harvest Series for Ontario-sired three-year-old pacing fillies while Pick Me Up Hanover picked up a series victory in the other round two division at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday, Nov. 14.

The series is for non-winners of $30,000 in 2025 as of Sept. 30.

In the first $20,000 division, driver Louis-Philippe Roy made the winning move with 1-9 favourite Cold Creek Fuego from mid-pack after a :55.3 half and they powered past tiring longshot leader Marlenes Legacy (J.R. Plante) into the stretch with pocket-sitter Betterdoubledown (Doug McNair) making late gains at the pylons to finish second and Mcjazz (Mike Whelan) rallying from the backfield for third. The bettors' choice held safe by half a length at the end of a :28.1 final quarter, hitting the wire in 1:52.2.

Cold Creek Fuego is trained by Daniel Walker, who co-owns the homebred Sunfire Blue Chip-Tymal Black Satin filly as part of the Grafton, Ont. based Cold Creek Standardbred. She now has eight wins in 14 starts during her debut season with earnings climbing to $82,905. The favourite paid $2.30 to win.

Roy took aim at a second leg sweep sending 7-5 favourite Parkavenuejanet to the front while parked out for the opening panel but Pick Me Up Hanover played spoiler with a slick steer from Jody Jamieson. After fractions of :27.4, :56.4 and 1:25.2, Pick Me Up Hanover slid inside of the popular pacesetter down the stretch and drew 1-3/4 lengths clear for the 1:53.2 victory. Wicked Cruizer (Billy Davis Jr.) also closed at the pylons and edged out Parkavenuejanet for the runner-up honours at odds of 31-1.

A runner-up to Parkavenuejanet in last week's opening leg, Pick Me Up Hanover was sent postward as the 5-2 third wagering choice and paid $7.60 to win. The Bettors Delight-Plaudit Hanover filly, who capped off her six-for-eight rookie campaign last year winning the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Championship, has won just two of her 18 sophomore starts. She is trained by Jeff Byron and owned by David Byron of Waubaushene, Ont., and Craig Wallwin of Barrie, Ont.

Spread six across the track at the finish of a $20,000 Pop-Up Series final for $8,000 claiming horses and geldings, Always B Sweetest prevailed in 1:54.1 for a 10-1 upset. Travis Henry worked out the winning trip for the four-year-old Always B Miki-Sweetest Emotion gelding, who is trained by Ron MacDonald and owned by Shen Guo of Waterloo, Ont., and Brett MacDonald of Freelton, Ont. Mach Steady (Plante) and Aragonite (Roy) rounded out the top three.

Veteran pacer Mach Impact, driven by Roy, was a dominant winner in the series consolation, finishing four lengths in front in a 1:54.3 mile for trainer Cory Fuller and owner Alec McNabb of Minesing, Ont.
