Royalty Beer Wins Flamboro Preferred; Demers Triples
Royalty Beer successfully bottomed out the field in an open-length victory over $10,000 Preferred Trot rivals at Flamboro Downs on Thursday, Nov. 13.
He drove forward from a rail start to secure the front on the first turn for Samuel Fillion and trotted :27.2 and :58 first-half panels. The Royalty For Life-Beer Maggs gelding turned up the heat heading for the backstretch and streaked away by six lengths at three-quarters in 1:25.2 before sailing home under minimal urging from Fillion, finishing the mile in 1:55.3. Goodashim (Scott Coulter) hustled for second, 2-3/4 lengths back of the winner. Insanity (Jason Ryan) was third.
Royalty Beer, trained by Jean-Francois Maguire, won for the 14th time in 30 starts this season. The six-year-old holds a career record of 32-for-103 with $427,047 in earnings. Maguire of Carlisle, Ont. shares ownership with Ecuries Maguire Inc. of Sainte-Marie, Que. The winner returned $4.50.
Gerard Demers trainees won three times on the 10-race card, with driver Austin Sorrie behind all three winners. The conditioner kicked off the triple with Carsons Shadow ($2.10), who went all the way in the second race in 1:57. He then won the eighth with Night Terror ($5.90) in 1:56.2 and the ninth with Bandura ($3.20) in 1:59.2. Demers has a 19 per cent win rate this season with 120 wins in 631 starts.
