Elegant Woman A Struts Her Stuff In Batavia Open

Elegant Woman A

Elegant Woman A won the $17,606 Fillies and Mares AA-Open Handicap for her second win at the top level in her past four starts at Batavia Downs on Wednesday, Nov. 12, night and she did so in impressive fashion on a cold night over a sloppy track rated two seconds slow.

Drew Monti sent Elegant Woman A right to the front and took control of the proceedings from there. The mare marched through fractions of :28.2, :58 and 1:26.3 with Tres Chic Bluechip (Joe Chindano Jr.) drafting in the pocket and Rightfully Mine (Kyle Swift) making a mild bid in the breeze at three-quarters. As the field progressed through the last turn, Elegant Woman A started to separate from her rivals. She was on top by 1-1/2 lengths at the head of the stretch and then cruised home to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:55.4. Tres Chic Bluechip was second, followed by Rightfully Mine (Kyle Swift).

Elegant Woman A ($2.84), who was imported to the United States from Australia earlier this year, is now eight-for-22 on the season. The five-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Versace Woman is owned by Vogel and Wags Nags LLC, Jack Rice, her trainer Maria Rice and her driver Drew Monti. She has won 10 of 29 lifetime starts.

Trainer Sam Smith tripled on the 12-race card, sending out winning trainees Tymal Envoy ($12.58), True That ($5.10), and April Hill High ($4.06). All three were driven by Kevin Cummings. Smith leads the Batavia trainers' standings with 63 wins. He has 133 victories across all tracks this season.

Jim McNeight Jr. also had three wins on the day.

There was a big payout in the night's final race when the Jackpot Super Hi-5 pentafecta was hit. The single unique winning combination of 9-3-8-5-4 returned $3,542.78 for the 20-cent wager.

Live racing resumes at Batavia Downs on Friday at 6 p.m.
