No Contest In Sunday Mohawk Finale

A crowd watches the start of the 2025 North America Cup at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Jody Jamieson has said he is “okay” after being unseated in an accident that resulted in a no contest in the final race at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Sunday, Nov. 9.

Jamieson was leaving with Twin B Courageous from post six when the gelding fell and was collected by Rbstenacious T (Travis Cullen). The collision dislodged Jamieson, and Twin B Courageous ran loose on the track, going the wrong way. The judges quickly declared a no contest, and all horses and drivers returned to the paddock safely. Twin B Courageous was caught and walked off the track.

Jamieson received attention from EMS and later posted an update on social media, saying that he is okay.

The racing highlights of the card were the two $10,000 Pop-Up Series second-leg divisions for fillies and mares.

My Only Sunshine ($4.10) steamrolled off cover in the stretch to win the first and faster split for Cullen by five lengths in 1:56.1 over the snowy surface rated good with a three-second variant. Missy Rocks (Daryl Thiessen) finished second after breaking the breeze for the winner, followed by a closing Prove Em Wrong (Jamieson). My Only Sunshine is owned and trained by Grace Marshman of Campbellcroft, Ont. The seven-year-old daughter of Sunshine Beach-Hat Trick Honey took her 15th career win in 144 attempts.

In the second division, Just One Bite ($22.60) led early, yielded to Fancy Lettering (Tyler Borth) on the backside, then passed her at the pylons down the lane and resisted Dollydaydream (Louis-Philippe Roy) by a half-length in a 1:57.1 score. Beethreepo (Thiessen) completed the triactor. Ron MacDonald trains Just One Bite, a daughter of Huntsville-Beautiful Secret, for Brett MacDonald of Freelton, Ont. and Shen Guo of Waterloo, Ont. The four-year-old has won three of 48 career starts.

The Pop-Up series is for pacing fillies and mares in for an $8,000 tag, with allowances for age.
