Like A Glove Grabs Truro Winners Over
Like A Glove got every call as he returned to the Winners Over Pace level at Truro Raceway on Sunday, Nov. 9 and won the featured contest for back-to-back victories.
He put all five opponents behind him with a push from the pylon post heading into the first turn and was never headed in the $2,500 dash. Marc Whebby rated the four-year-old to :28.4, :58.3, and 1:28.3 fractions with favourite Bettor On Than Off (Ernie Laffin) first-up through the back half. Bettor On Than Off never made it past the leader’s wheel, and Bronx Drifter (Robert Laffin) had little say from the pocket as Like A Glove cruised to a 1:56.4 victory by 1-1/2 lengths. Bettor On Than Off rolled up for second in a tough effort. Bronx Drifter finished third.
Like A Glove has been solid for Marc Whebby, who trains the stallion, since returning to the Maritimes in the spring. From 24 overall starts, he has all six of his wins this year in Atlantic Canada, including three at the Winners Over level, and 13 total top-three finishes in the region. Wayne Whebby of Dartmouth, N.S. owns the son of Mcwicked-Twin B Virtue, a 13-time winner in 53 lifetime outings with $79,534 in earnings. Like A Glove paid $4.60 to win.
