Unusual Clarity Upsets Vernon's Featured Distaffers Friday
Landing last of seven from the outside post at the start in the featured $10,563 fillies & mares conditioned pace, Unusual Clarity and trainer/driver Ron Harp circled the field to spring a 31-1 upset at Vernon Downs on Friday, Nov. 7.
Sophomore Little Instigator (Leon Bailey) was first to the quarter in :27.2 before favourite Elegant Woman A (John MacDonald) took over at the half in :56.2. Quarrel (Chris Long) then went first-up to challenge going around the final turn to three-quarters in 1:25.4 and battled with Elegant Woman A shoulder to shoulder in the stretch, but Unusual Clarity came flying three-wide off her cover late to get the win in 1:55. Divine Art (Gerald Longo) closed for second, finishing less than a length behind, while Quarrel edged out Elegant Woman A for third.
Unusual Clarity is a 10-year-old mare by Betterthancheddar out of Circle Game. She's won three of her last six starts at Vernon and now has five wins overall this year from 19 outings for owner Nicholas Gibides of Syracuse, New York.
The second-longest shot on the board, Unusual Clarity rewarded her backers with a $65.46 win payout for a $2 investment.
Driver Dylan Huckabone-Miller and trainer Fannie Saul-Beaulieu teamed up for two wins on the 12-race card while drivers Leon Bailey and Chris Long each had doubles as well.
Live harness racing returns to Vernon Downs on Saturday, Nov. 8 with a post time of 5:05 p.m.
