Face The Shadows Vaults To Victory At Batavia

Face The Shadows

On a rainy evening at Batavia Downs, Face The Shadows made her one move count as she won the featured $12,676 Fillies and Mares Class A-AA Pace on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

When the gate released the girls over the track rated sloppy, the field formed up single file with Major Megan (Jim McNeight Jr.) leading the way as Face The Shadows (Kevin Cummings) was drafting along third. After the group of seven reached the quarter in :29 and the half in :59.2, Face The Shadows was put into play first-over in turn three and made her way alongside Major Megan at three-quarters in 1:28.3. Face The Shadows slowly forged ahead on the final turn, and by the top of the lane, she was securely in front. Face The Shadows then paced to the line to a 2-1/4-length victory in 1:58. Rightfully Mine (Kyle Swift) got up for place over Major Megan.

Sam Smith trains Face The Shadows ($6.10) for El Dorado Stables and Mike Torcello. The five-year-old daughter of Shadow Play-Face To Face has now won nine times in 83 lifetime outings and has earned $162,215.

Drivers Kevin Cummings, Joe Chindano Jr., and Denny Bucceri and trainer Dave Weston all scored two wins apiece on Wednesday.

The 12th and final race of the evening was cancelled due to a power outage.

Live racing resumes at Batavia Downs on Friday, Nov. 7 with post time at 6 p.m.
