Savour The Moment Stuns In Harvest Series Final
A pair of Harvest Series Finals on Monday (Nov. 3) at Woodbine Mohawk Park featured to very different results as Savour The Moment closed from the clouds to deliver a 19-1 shocker in the filly pace, while TH Trix R Forkids delivered as the 2-5 favourite in the filly trot.
Both series finals were for Ontario Sired fillies who were non-winners of $30,000 as of Sept. 30 and Savour The Moment (pictured above) had to deal with post eight in the 10-horse $46,300 final for pacing fillies.
Driver Travis Henry took back with Savour The Moment early, landing in ninth on the first turn and spotting Aleksova (Tyler Borth) 17-3/4 lengths at the quarters as the revved up leader was loose to a hot :26.2 opening split. The field tightened back up on the backstretch, with Aleksova leading to the half in :56 while Savour The Moment tipped off the cones but found herself with excess cover moving into the far turn. Aleksova came under siege around the final bend, reaching three-quarters in 1:25.2 and now just 5-1/2 lengths back to Savour The Moment in ninth in the outer-flow.
Aleksova gave way at the top of the lane as Regil Whitesocks (Jean Rene Plante) struck the lead midway through the stretch at 21-1 with Savour The Moment in hot pursuit to her outside. Surging home in :27.4, Savour The Moment rallied by Regil Whitesocks in the final stages to win by a half-length in 1:54.1 while Favoritism (Louis-Philippe Roy) rallied for third.
Trained by Jeff Williams, Savour The Moment ($40.20) has now won two of 14 on the season, good for earnings of $47,350. The winning daughter of All Bets Off-Breathtacular is owned by Mardon Stables of Loretto, Ont., Hudson Standrdbrd Stable Inc. of Hudson, Que., and Randy Liepa of Livonia, MI.
Earlier in the evening, TH Trix R Forkids and driver Trevor Henry held of their end of the bargain as the 2-5 favourite in the $45,400 filly trot final.
Leaving from post four in the condensed field of five, TH Trix R Forkids found a seat in third while My Ghost (Louis-Philippe Roy) trotted to an early lead in :28.2. Kountry Clover (Travis Cullen) popped the pocket and moved around My Ghost to take control before reaching the half in :58. TH Trix R Forkids began to edge off the cones around the final turn, flushing the cover of My Ghost at three-quarters in 1;27.2 as Kountry Clover brought the quintet into the stretch.
The fillies fanned out three-across in the stretch, with TH Trix R Forkids picking up steam in the middle of the lane while My Ghost began to wear down Kountry Clover. TH Trix R Forkids trotted home in :29.2 to surge by both fillies late, winning by a length in 1:57.2. My Ghost was second, with Kountry Clover holding for third.
Trained by Murray Brethour, TH Trix R Forkids ($2.90) has won two of five this year, with each of those wins coming consecutively. The daughter of Muscle Mass-One Trix Pony is owned by Glenn Bechtel of Stanhope, P.E.I. and has earned $35,100.
A Pop-Up Series for filly and mare $8,000 claiming pacers got underway on Monday with a pair of $10,000 divisions as well. Driver Jean Rene Plante won both divisions, scoring with Fancy Lettering ($11.80, 1:56.2) and Stay Pumped ($8.20, 1:54.2).
