The Light Speed Favoured In Rideau Preferred Sunday
With just 11 race dates left in its 2025 meet, Ottawa's Rideau Carleton Raceway starts November with a 10-race card this Sunday, Nov. 2 featuring a $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace.
Reigning Rideau Horse of the Year The Light Speed is the 7-5 morning line favourite despite his outside post assignment in the six-horse Preferred field. Owned by breeder Michel Nolette of Princeville, Que., the seven-year-old Moon Beam-Jayma gelding is a career winner of 73 races with 13 of those victories coming this year, including a 1:50.3 lifetime mark taken at his home track in May. The Light Speed and his two-time O'Brien Award of Horsemanship-winning trainer/driver Guy Gagnon edged out top rival HP Lis Shadow and Robert Shepherd last Sunday in the Preferred Handicap. The rivalry resumes in race eight this Sunday evening.
First race post time on Sunday is 6:30 p.m.
Rideau Carleton streams live races on its YouTube channel and is available for wagering on HPIbet, TwinSpires, NYRA Bets, Xpressbet, Watch And Wager, and other major advance-deposit wagering providers across North America.
Local racing fans are welcome to attend qualifiers on Sundays at 5 p.m.
Mr Lucky's grandstand restaurant is open on race nights, Wednesdays until Nov. 19 and Sundays though Dec. 14. Reservations are not required.
Rideau Carleton will host a special American Thanksgiving card on Thursday, Nov. 27 with a first post of 4 p.m.
