Sendi Ka, Scorpion Seelster Take Harvest Series Splits
Two $20,000 second-leg Harvest Series divisions for rookie colts and geldings went to post on Thursday, Oct. 30 at a rainy Woodbine Mohawk Park over a track rated good with a two-second variant.
Sendi Ka stormed out of the pocket to win the division for trotters. He headed the field into the first turn and past the quarter in :28 for Doug McNair before releasing the on-rushing first-leg winner Anibal Duharas (Louis-Philippe Roy) at the half in :57.3. Wolverine Legend (Trevor Henry) rolled first-over to the leader’s wheel at three-quarters in 1:27.1, and those two clashed into the lane, but Sendi Ka slid up the cones and charged past them to a 3-1/2-length victory in 1:57. Anibal Duharas outlasted Wolverine Legend for second.
Ben Baillargeon trains the winning Green Manalishi S-Baby Mia gelding, a homebred for Santo Vena of Cedar Valley, Ont. and Nunzio Vena of Bolton, Ont. Sendi Ka has won twice in 11 starts and has earned $32,900. He paid $7.90 to win.
Scorpion Seelster found his way out of a mid-race shuffle and surged to win the pacing split. Jody Jamieson ordered speed from the colt from post nine, making the top on the first turn before ceding command to the quarter-poling Twin B John B (Roy) past the first station in :28. Lous Game (McNair) then brushed to the front before the half in :56.3, and Pa Salt (Billy Davis Jr.) advanced first-up to three-quarters in 1:26 with Barracuda Hanover (Tyler Borth) in tow, leaving Scorpion Seelster locked in the three-hole. As the field fanned out in the stretch, Scorpion Seelster found his way into clear racetrack, and he forged past Twin B John B for the 1:54.3 victory. Evans Legacy (Trevor Henry) closed for place, and Twin B John B held third.
Scorpion Seelster won for the second time in six starts for trainer Dave Menary and owner Kjell Andersen of Walchwil, Switzerland. The son of Bulldog Hanover-Soiree Seelster has earned $24,280. The win price was $4.40.
The Harvest Series is for Ontario-sired horses that are non-winners of $30,000 this year as of Sept. 30. Both series for two-year-old males will conclude on Nov. 7 at Mohawk.
