Tyrone Bow Tie Back On Top In Rideau Preferred

Bente Nielsen

After his first defeat since August in his last start, Tyrone Bow Tie retook the Rideau Carleton Raceway overnight trotting crown with a sharp victory in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Raising Rusty (Stephane Pouliot), who defeated Tyrone Bow Tie a week ago, took the first lead but soon saw the back of that rival as Pascal Berube refused the pocket and sent the 4-5 choice to the front at the quarter in :28.2. Tyrone Bow Tie trotted freely on the engine through :57.3 and 1:26 middle splits, and he gave no chance to the pocket-sitter as he kicked into high gear on the final turn and rolled home under urging to score by 3-1/4 lengths in 1:55.3. Nothingbutadreamer (Guy Gagnon) flew late to nab second over Raising Rusty.

Tyrone Bow Tie, trained by Mike Armstrong, has ruled the Rideau Preferred Trot ranks this year with 11 victories, including five of his past six starts. Cardinal, Ont.-based connections Rachel Burns, Wade Tousignant, and Phil Tousignant own the five-year-old. The son of Lookslikeachpndale-Risk Seeker is now 16-for-58 lifetime and has earned $136,941. He paid $3.90 to win.

Mandy Archer added another three victories to her meet-leading total on the 10-race card. Her winning trainees were Century Lexus ($2.50), making her first start for the trainer, Never Mind N ($3.10), who has now won seven of his last nine outings, and Tamara Hanover ($3.30), who is now 15-for-38 this year. With the triple, Archer crossed the 100-win mark for the year, bringing her to 101, which ties her previous best season. She boasts a 32.9 per cent win rate this year and leads the Rideau standings by 35 tallies.
