Caviart Daisy Shatters Record In Viginia Breeders Final

Caviart Daisy

Caviart Daisy thundered to command coming out of turn two, passed three-quarters four lengths in front, and cruised the rest of the way to a track-record victory in the $128,204 Virginia Breeders Stakes Two-Year-Old Filly Pace Final on Saturday, Oct. 25, closing day at Shenandoah Downs.

Caviart Daisy, a Sweet Lou-Caviart Darlin filly, was sent away as the 1-9 favourite off a pair of impressive elimination wins in the past two weeks. Tony Morgan was back aboard Saturday and put her third through a :27.1 quarter before sending her to the lead nearing the half in :55.2. The filly then stormed away through three-quarters in 1:24, and the Jamie Sullivan trainee collected her sixth victory in 11 starts with a time of 1:53.3, a new track record in the freshman filly pacing division. Caviart Santa Fe (Eric Davis) was five lengths adrift in second, followed by More Than Better (Corey Braden). Caviart Daisy, owned by Frank Chick, has now earned $296,429. She paid $2.10 to win.

Caviart Trenton ($2.20) wired the field in the $131,373 Two-Year-Old Colt Pace Final to complete a Virginia Breeders Stakes sweep. The Captain Crunch-Caviart Tempest gelding dominated his two eliminations, then powered home on Saturday to a 1:54.3 victory with Tim Deaton in the bike for trainer Janet Davis and owner Ramona Gillespie. The winner held off a pesky Caviart Cadet (Anibal Borjas), who finished 1-1/2 lengths back as runner-up. Michelles Kyle (Jared Moyer) was third. Caviart Trenton is now six-for-10 with a bankroll of $95,373.

Bobbie Mac ($12.80) came outside from third at the three-quarter mark, moved past Caviart Gemma (Fern Paquet Jr.) at the top of the stretch into second, then surged by Cherrys Girl (Anthony MacDonald) in the stretch to capture the $135,352 Two-Year-Old Filly Trot Final in 1:58.3. Trainer Logan Ebersole piloted the daughter of In Range-Wiki Hanover to her first Virginia Breeders Stakes victory after back-to-back seconds in the elimination rounds for owner Ronald Rust. The winner crossed the line a half-length in front of Ebersole's other entrant, Cherrys Girl, to improve to two-for-nine lifetime with $86,480 in earnings. Wolfpack One (Beyer) finished third.

Caviart War Room ($4) took the $132,993 Two-Year-Old Colt Trot Final in impressive fashion, recovering from a break on the first turn and rallying from near-last at the top of the stretch to a 2:03 victory. The Tactical Landing-Caviart Wonder gelding was sixth at the head of the lane, but driver Corey Callahan deftly guided his trotter past all five foes in front of him to prevail by 1-3/4 lengths. The Domenico Cecere trainee broke and finished a distant fourth in his first elimination, but he dominated by 7-3/4 lengths in the second round. He is a three-time winner in seven starts with $85,045 in earnings for K R Breeding LLC and Robert Rudolph. Harding Boy (Paquet) finished second, and Convicted Criminal (Les Givens) took third.

Trainer Bryson Dunning won three races on the 14-dash card, reaching victory lane with Armenian Princess ($3.40), Captain Highliner ($25.20), and Bettor Be Oscar A ($8.80). The conditioner has won 85 races this year, more than doubling his previous best seasonal total, and is winning at a 17.9 per cent rate.

Shenandoah Downs closed out its 10th season of pari-mutuel harness racing in Woodstock, Va. with the Virginia Breeders Stakes Championship weekend. The 2026 spring meet will start on Apr. 11 pending Virginia Racing Commission approval.
