Hoosier Hits New Single-Season Handle Record
Harrah’s Hoosier Park surpassed its all-time record handle for a season on Thursday, Oct. 16, soaring past the previous record of $124 million for a 160-day meet with 23 cards still left in the season.
“We’re thrilled with the results so far in 2025 and appreciate the support from horsemen and horseplayers alike for what has been a record-breaking year,” said Gabe Prewitt, Vice President and General Manager of Racing at Hoosier. “We still feel like there is a lot of opportunity for growth in 2026 and beyond and look forward to finishing out the record-breaking season with tremendous racing over our final five weeks of the meet.”
The previous record of $124 million was established in 2023 when Hoosier hosted the Breeders Crown for a third time. Total handle from the Breeders Crown-related cards was more than $8 million. Despite not hosting a Breeders Crown this year, the Hoosier handle has continued to soar while being down slightly in average field size from a year ago and in an industry which is down nearly 8.5 per cent in handle year-over-year. In 2025, the handle for a single card has eclipsed the $1 million mark 21 times, while the previous record was 13 in 2023. The Hoosier Champions card on Oct. 10, which was broadcast nationally for the first time in the event’s history, garnered a track-record handle for a non-Breeders Crown card at $1.77 million.
The 2025 season at Hoosier Park marches on with racing Wednesday though Saturday until Nov. 8 before going to a Thursday-through-Saturday schedule from Nov. 13 to Nov. 22. The 32nd harness meet will end with a two-day closing weekend on Friday, Nov. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 29 before racing returns next February to the Anderson, Ind. oval. First post daily is 5:30 p.m.
