Saratoga Hosts Race For The Cure

Jimble Kimble and driver Leon Bailey were relentless in the Race For The Cure at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Sunday, Oct. 19, winning the $16,197 pace in a career-best time for the five-year-old gelding.
Leaving from post one in the seventh race for $17,606 claimers, Bailey positioned Jimble Kimble on the lead before relinquishing his position to the 6-5 favourite, Heavensway A (Wally Hennessey). Just after the :27.1 quarter, Jimble Kimble swept around the bettors' choice to regain command of the field and he never looked back as he controlled the half in :57.1 and three-quarters in 1:25.2. Brushing off the pressure of his foes behind him, Jimble Kimble opened up to win by 3-3/4 lengths in a new lifetime mark of 1:54.1. Palomar (Brett Beckwith) finished second and Captainofrocknroll (Jim Devaux) was third.
Locally owned by trainer John Hallett with daughter Jessica, the Huntsville-Thumbprint gelding recorded his second win in 31 tries this year. The victory was Jimble Kimble's 10th in 95 career starts and pushed his earnings to $127,724. He returned $14.52 for the mild upset at 6-1.
The annual Racing For The Cure event in race seven was lauded as a success by track officials with donations from horsepeople and fans going to support Susan G. Komen For The Cure to help end breast cancer. All of the trainers and drivers in the seventh race, in addition to several horsepeople on the card, donated their portion of the purses to support the cause.
One race prior in the $26,056 Winners Over/Open Handicap Pace, Unrivaled Hanover and driver Jim Devaux won every post, timed in :27.1, :56.2 and 1:24 en route to a 3-3/4-length score in 1:51.3. Favorable Draw (Aaron Byron) was second with Blue Lou (Hennessey) third.
Kellogg Racing Stables of Queensbury, New York owns the four-year-old Bettors Delight-Upside Surprise gelding, who recorded his 10th win in 27 starts this year. The victory pushed his career record to 15-14-6 in 58 starts. This year, the Jackie Greene trainee has banked more than $135,000 of his career $377,761 sum. He paid $3.14 to win as the bettors' choice.
