Tobins Swiftie, Thebaddog Top Record Atlantic Classic Sale

Tobins Swiftie and Thebaddog were the sale toppers of a record-setting Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale held on Friday, Oct. 10 at the Crapaud Exhibition Grounds in Crapaud, P.E.I.
Tobins Swiftie, a daughter of Somewhere Fancy out of the heavy-hitting producing racemare Putnams MacKenzie, had the gavel drop at $72,000 to top the sale, purchased by Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. Selling as Hip 89 and consigned by Wendell Williams, the filly is a half sister to Atlantic Champions Tobins Brownie ($236,926 - 1:53.3h) and Tobins Chester ($274,587 - 1:50f).
Thebaddog, Hip 113, shared the spotlight in a tie for sale topper with a $72,000 purchase price. Victor Puddy of Mountain, Ont. snagged the Bulldog Hanover colt, who is the third foal out of the Somebeachsomewhere mare Peaceful Deo. The colt was consigned by Faith Gavin, agent for Leigh Gavin.
The top priced trotter in the history of the Atlantic Classic Sale went through the ring as Earl Speed, Hip 134, was purchased for $59,000. MacRae signed the slip on the son of Muscle Through It out of $400,000+ winner Scottish Cross from the Danielle Henri consignment.
Sheeowtime Speed, Hip 28, was among the top priced yearlings of this year's sale with a $46,000 price tag. Consigned by Michel Allard, the Somewhere Fancy-Betty Hill filly was purchased by Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I.
Brouhaha Speed, Hip 149, also brought a $46,000 bid during the sale from Debbie Francis of Sweets Corner, N.S., and Debra Downing of Moncton, N.B. The son of Somewhere Fancy-Eyre Hostess N was consigned by Henri.
Another top seller was Woodmere Eras, Hip 120, selling to Mike Pollard for $41,000. The Somewhere Fancy-Northern Fiesta gelding was from the Woodmere Farms consignment.
Dancin Lady Lou, Hop 93, held the mantle for Ontario-bred fillies with the daughter of Dancin Lou-Abes Lady going to Josh MacDonald for $39,000 from the Tulach Ard Farm consignment.
The day started off with Woodmere Sinner, Hip 1, selling as the highest priced opener in the history of the Atlantic Classic Sale, attracting a bid of $25,000. The Malicious-Sinspirational gelding from the Woodmere Farms consignment was purchased by Wayne McGean of Sydney Mines, N.S. and Dave Mercer of Westmount, N.S.
A total of 147 yearlings sold for a new all-time Atlantic Classic Sale record gross of $1,928,500. The average price was $13,119.
“The day showcased the demand for Atlantic-bred horses on the eve of a fantastic week of Atlantic Breeders Crown finals,” said sale chair Nicholas Oakes. “Records were the theme of the day in Crapaud as buyers showed up in force to select their next chance at a champion as the future shines bright for the East Coast breeding business.”
