King Putt Breaks Northville Course Record

King Putt lowered the track record for a three-year-old pacing gelding and the overall sophomore record at Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center in Hastings, Mich. on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Off the car, Art McIlmurray sent his charge, Absolutely Real, to the lead in a :29.3 first quarter before King Putt and Joe Casagranda took over headed to the midway point. The duo then set sail to a half in :59.3 and three-quarters in 1:29.3 before blasting off to an 8-1/4-length margin and stopping the clock in 1:57.4. Absolutely Real was second, followed by Unhynged Impulso (Ty Goodell).
King Putt sliced more than a second off the previous mark for an altered three-year-old pacer, the 1:59.3 mile turned in by Not Fake News on Sept. 30. He also took the three-year-old record from colt Left Hand Lou, who established it through a 1:59.1 win on Sept. 2.
The locally based Casagranda bred, owns, trains, and drove the winning son of Jk Endofanera-Pv Miracle Mary. King Putt bolstered his record to 10 wins in 15 starts and upped his bankroll to $59,226. He paid $3.80 to win.
David Lake led all drivers on the eight-race card with three wins. Trainer Cheryl Whitsell had a training double.
Racing resumes on Tuesday, Oct. 14 and Wednesday, Oct. 15, which will close out the 2025 race meet at Northville Downs. Both cards have a first-race post time of 1 p.m.
