Northville Grand Slam For Two Birds Onestone

Two Birds Onestone, fresh off his all-age track record performance a week ago, won the the $18,333 Open Pace on Tuesday, Oct. 7 for his fourth straight victory since coming to Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center in Hastings, Mich.
Two Birds Onestone left alertly for Jennifer Main as the second choice from post eight, with favourite Red Righthand Man N (Kody Massey) also firing from post five. The duo battled hard through the first quarter-mile of :28.1 before Red Righthand Man N finally yielded the lead to the outside speedster as the pair opened up on the other six competitors en route to the half in :56.1.
As the field went to three-quarters in 1:26.1, Red Righthand Man N peeked to the outside of the leader, but Two Birds Onestone proved too strong and maintained his lead through the stretch to score in 1:55.2 over a track listed as good. Red Righthand Man N was a length back at the line. Rb (Ty Goodell) finished third.
The win marked the second Open victory in a row for Two Birds Onestone. He is owned by Carl Putnam, Jr. and is trained by Steve Main. The five-year-old Black Daniels-She B Jeebeez gelding has now earned $383,825 and compiled a record of 34 wins from 81 career starts. He paid $5.20 to win.
Kings Sweetheart, who is owned, trained, and driven by David Lake, lowered her own previous track record for an aged trotting mare to 2:00.4 in the $13,333 conditioned opener, winning by three lengths. After fractions of :30, :59.3, and 1:29.4 set by Saulsgood (Art McIlmurray), Kings Sweetheart out-kicked that rival and drew clear by three lengths over the closing Echos Gg (John Moody). Swan Leader (Charles Taylor) was third.
Kings Sweetheart, who set the previous record of 2:02.3, is now six-for-39 lifetime. The five-year-old daughter of Big Chocolate-Red Queens Image has earned $73,077. Her win payout was $9.80.
In the $18,333 Fillies and Mares Open Pace, Mother Mary ($3.40) won on the front end by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:56.3 for owner-breeder-trainer-driver Joe Casagranda. The four-year-old daughter of Rockin Image-Pv Miracle Mary is now 17-for-33 lifetime.
Bo Nanza Chip ($11.60) closed from mid-pack to snag the $18,333 Open Trot at the wire by a half-length over Travlin Swan (McIlmurray) in 2:00.3. Bo Nanza Chip, a nine-year-old son of Bands Gold Chip-Betteka, is owned by J.D. Yoder and trained and driven by Lavern Miller. He has won 35 of 159 career outings.
Drivers Jennifer Main and Massey each had doubles on the 10-race program. Trainer Steve Main sent out a pair of winners.
Racing resumes on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Northville Downs with a first-race post time of 1 p.m.
