Stakes Continue Sunday At Summerside

The Atlantic region’s top three-year-old pacers will converge on Red Shores Summerside Raceway on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 5 as the Lady Slipper Stakes and Joe O’Brien Memorial headline a stakes-filled 11-dash program.

The Lady Slipper Gold divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies headline the program, starting in race five with a $25,250 division. Badgirl Bridgette is the 5-2 morning line choice from post seven for trainer William Lanigan and driver Jason Hughes after a string of sharp efforts, while Tobins Dream (Gilles Barrieau) from post two and Miss Believing (Ken Murphy) from post one are her main challengers.

Another $25,250 Gold split will line up in race eight with Steady Heart (Marc Campbell) pegged as the top choice from post three for trainer Bo Ford over Talldarklatte (Brodie MacPhee) with post five and Mindbodyandsoul (Paul Langille) with post six.

The final Gold division for the pacing fillies will go in race 10 with $25,250 on the line. Elm Grove Talia (Post 4) for trainer-driver David Dowling has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favourite after a season of nothing but top-three finishes, while Watch Me Shake It (Kenny Arsenault) with post five and Woodmereontheline (Langille) from post six round out the top choices.

The Joe O’Brien Memorial also has two rich $32,800 Gold divisions for three-year-old pacing colts. Race six is the first with One Wicked Man (Arsenault) leading the selections at 5-2 in post three after multiple victories in stakes action. Rosetown Eclipse (Corey MacPherson) will leave from post four and Evil Lou (Barrieau) has post six, with both marked as key contenders.

Race nine carries the same $32,800 purse level with Malevolent given respect at 5-2 in post three for trainer/driver Langille ahead of Dusty Lane Levi (Jason Hughes) with post four and Phil My Beer (Marc Campbell) from post two.

The Lady Slipper Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies will kick off in race one with a $12,625 Grassroots division followed by another split in race seven. The Joe O’Brien Memorial for sophomore colts and geldings has a lone $16,400 Grassroots division in race three.

The stakes-laden afternoon also features the Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series presented by Standardbred Canada in race 11 with a $6,000 purse. Sugar Bowl (Barrieau) has rail control for trainer Jeff Holmes, while Rosetown Mary (MacPherson) and Miss Dutton (Langille) are set to mount top level challenges.

First race post time is 1 p.m. (ADT).
