Up Blueberry Hill Upsets In Dayton Feature

Up Blueberry Hill got up late to take the featured $25,000 conditioned claiming trot in a 14-1 upset, capping a strong performance by driver Tyler Smith on the Tuesday, Sept. 30 card at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.
Beaueastel (Chris Page) grabbed the early lead and was able to control the fractions of :27.2, :56.1, and 1:25.1 with little pressure as Up Blueberry Hill sat third. The last quarter-mile was a different story, as the entire field of eight had a shot at the leader, creating a wild, five-across finish. Up Blueberry Hill, who had slipped out second-over on the final turn, had the best late kick to get up by a head in 1:55. Whiskey Peddler (Austin Hanners) finished second, with Long Ridge (Trevor Smith) third beaten a neck.
Up Blueberry Hill rewarded his backers with a $31.20 win ticket. The six-year-old What The Hill-Fruition gelding is trained by Herman Hagerman for Wayne Weaver. He is now 11-for-81 lifetime.
Smith recorded four wins on the evening. The 32-year-old took the opener with Real Thriller ($4.20) in 1:51.4 and came back in the ninth race with Fear The Hammer ($3.40), going gate-to-wire in 1:53. Smith then orchestrated a last-to-first victory with Brixs On Fire ($32.20) in 1:56 in the 11th race. His final win came with Up Blueberry Hill.
Racing resumes on Wednesday at Dayton Raceway with a 14-race card starting at 4 p.m.
