The Light Speed Lightning Fast In Rideau Preferred

Post eight was no problem for The Light Speed in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, Sept. 28 as the Moon Beam-Jayma gelding secured his fourth straight win despite being parked the mile. The triumph completed a training triple and driving five-pack for Guy Gagnon.
With trainer Guy Gagnon in the bike, The Light Speed left out of post eight. Still sitting eighth, The Light Speed was parked on the outside through the opening quarter in :26.3. The Light Speed continued to truck on the outside, landing in fifth at the :55.2 half and second at the 1:23.3 three-quarters. Living up to his role as the bettors' choice, The Light Speed prevailed at the wire by a half length in 1:51.4. HP Lis Shadow (Robert Shepherd) was second while P L Ozzy (Ryan Guy) finished third.
Michel Nolette of Princeville, Que. bred and owns the seven-year-old gelding, who earned his 12th win on the year in 27 starts. In 160 career starts, The Light Speed has banked $523,689 and a record of 72-47-12. He paid $4.10 to win.
Gagnon completed his training hat trick with Make It Come True ($6.10) and Wall Street Bell ($2.30), the latter won his fifth straight race. Winning with Muktuk Annie ($2.20) and Curious Cortez ($13.50) completed Gagnon's driving five-bagger.
