Windemere Skye

Marc Campbell tallied five driving wins on the Sunday, Sept. 28 card at Inverness Raceway including a track record in the featured Atlantic Sires Stake (ATSS) and a win in the Winners Over Pace.

Campbell's highest purse win of the day at the Inverness, N.S. oval was in the ATSS "A" division for two-year-old pacing fillies, worth a $33,980 purse, with Earl Watts trainee Windemere Skye, who notched her ninth win in nine career starts with a track record performance.

With two scratches in the field of seven, Windemere Skye and Campbell set sail from the car and claimed the early lead. Facing no difficulties from her rivals, Windemere Skye controlled the timer in :29.2, :58.3 and 1:28.4 before opening up to win by 4-1/4 lengths in 1:56.3. Beach Jewels (Redmond Doucet) finished second with Mysterious Ways (Jason Hughes) third.

Windemere Skye lowered JJ Scarlett's divisional track record by three-fifths of a second.

Breeder Windemere Farms co-owns the two-year-old Somewhere Fancy-Howmac Missy filly with Matt Burke. Windemere Skye now has $76,105 in the bank. She paid $2.50 to win.

Campbell swept the late double and completed his five pack with La Playa Deo in the $2,000 Winners Over Pace. Trailing in post seven, Campbell and the Madison Poirier student got away fourth, worked their way on a second-over trip and then stole the win at the wire by a neck in a blanket finish clocked in 1:58.1. Shir Gain (Rodney Gillis) took second and favoured pacesetter Windemere Best Man (Donald Gillis) had to settle for third.

Poirier owns La Playa Deo, a six-year-old gelded son of Sunshine Beach-See And Be Seen and winner of $44,728 in career earnings. The win moved the gelding's record to 13-16-14 in 113 starts. He paid $8.50 to win.

A natural hat trick in races two through four with Effie May Cay ($3), Jgsjumanji ($7.20) and J Gs Fireball ($4.90) rounded out the five wins for Campbell on Sunday.
