Tyrone Bow Tie Tops Again In Rideau Preferred

Despite the return of his main rival Emma Town Bud, Tyrone Bow Tie extended his reign atop the Rideau Carleton Raceway trotting ranks with a third straight victory in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
The gelding was stymied in his initial push for the lead by inside starter Raising Rusty (Stephane Pouliot) and was hung out entering the first turn with Emma Town Bud (Pierre Bovay) to his outside. While that foe retreated to trail the field of five, Tyrone Bow Tie advanced for Ryan Guy to make the front just past the quarter in :28.2. He had his way through middle fractions of :58.2 and 1:26.3 and grabbed a couple of lengths on his rivals coming off the far turn, and Guy kept him to task to reach the line a one-length winner in 1:55.4. Kenogami Coco (Robert Shepherd) held second over Rose Run Why Not (Pascal Berube).
Tyrone Bow Tie has taken nine of 10 wins this year in the Rideau Preferred, and he has hit the board in 18 of 26 seasonal outings. Mike Armstrong trains the five-year-old for Rachel Burns and Wade and Philip Tousignant of Cardinal, Ont. The son of Lookslikeachpndale-Risk Seeker is now 14-for-55 with $125,691 in career earnings. He returned $5.
Mandy Archer sent forth another trio of winners on the 10-race program, further padding her cushion in the trainers’ standings. Robert Shepherd drove all three to victory as part of a five-win day for the reinsman. The pair won the fourth race with Jack Wick ($3.30) in 1:52.4, the fifth with Never Mind N ($3.10) in 1:56.2, and the ninth with Tamara Hanover ($2.70) in 1:54.4.
Archer is now ahead of Guy Gagnon by 33 wins in the title race with 87 victories. Her trainees are winning at a 33.3 per cent rate this year, and she is 14 tallies off tying her previous best season.
Shepherd opened the card with a double, winning with Jacob Copley’s Muktuk Annie ($2.90) in 1:55 and Southwind Mac ($7.40) in 1:57.1 for trainer Jeremy Marcotte. He has amassed 99 victories this year in 468 starts, good for a strike rate of 21.2 per cent.
