Record-Setting Forbearance Tops ASHA Yearling Sale

Forbearance

The record books at the Alberta Standardbred Horse Association (ASHA) Yearling Sale at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino were rewritten on Sunday, Sept. 28 as sales topper Forbearance became the highest selling yearling in the history of the sale.

Selling as Hip 26 from consigner Gigi Van Ostrand, Forbearance sold for $137,000 to top not only the day's bidding action, but the bidding history of the ASHA Yearling Sale. Brandon Campbell of Alberta was the top bidder on the Custard The Dragon-Panagler gelding. He is a half-brother to former Campbell pupil Grey Horizon ($417,807 - 1:501f), Speaking Of Art ($190,105 - 1:51.2s) and Barnabas ($447,067 - 1:50f).

Sloppydoubleclutch, Hip 50, sold as the second highest priced yearling of the 2025 sale as a $66,500 purchase by Alberta's Jacques Lambert. Consigned by B & W Slopianka, the Custard The Dragon-Hidden Play gelding is a half-sibling to Sarah Said ($114,537 - 1:51.3f) and Flow With Joe ($311,295 - 1:52.3h).

Ruby Lips, Hip 70, rounded out the top three highest priced yearlings sold on Sunday with Alberta's Nancy Retzlaff and Doug Stout the winning bidders at $61,000. Also consigned by Gigi Van Ostrand, the Huntsville filly is the first foal out of Clemmie Hanover, a winner of nearly $150,000 on the track.

ASHA has reported a total of 87 yearlings were sold for $1,125,000 (excluding buybacks), marking a 19 per cent decrease in gross sales over last year’s auction that had 61 yearlings. The average price of $22,061 was down 3.03 per cent.
