Carsons Shadow Stays Hot On Shortened Flamboro Card

Carsons Shadow

Carsons Shadow won his fifth straight race in a claiming event at Flamboro Downs on Tuesday, Sept. 23 before the remainder of the card was cancelled due to weather conditions.

The gelding charged out from post seven to challenge for the front in the $5,000 contest, but Austin Sorrie dropped him back into third to the quarter in :28.4 before commencing a brush on the second turn. The gelding drew alongside leader Toureg Seelster (Paul MacKenzie) at the half in :58.4 and, despite going rough-gaited on the backstretch, cleared to the front before three-quarters in 1:27. Carsons Shadow then accelerated away from the field and drew clear by three lengths to complete a 1:57.1 victory. Papiamento (Jason Ryan) surged to be second over Dusty Lane Morgan (Dale Spence).

Carsons Shadow's win was his fifth in a row in the claiming ranks and his sixth in eight starts since joining the Gerard Demers barn. The nine-year-old son of Shadow Play-Carsons Ladyluck recorded his 30th lifetime win and upped his bankroll to $210,563 in 132 starts. He is owned by Francois Morin of Beauceville, Que. The win price was $2.70.

Bella Chica ($2.40) produced the fastest mile of the three $8,000 Prospect Series divisions for two-year-old trotters. She flew off the gate for MacKenzie, landed on the lead before the first turn, and was in command of the first group of fillies from there, pulling away to a 4-3/4-length victory in 1:58.4. Corrie German trains Bella Chica, a daughter of Lookslikeachpndale-Wheely Twicky, whom he co-owns and co-bred with Brenda German.

Iamthat Special ($3.80) captured the other division for fillies in similar fashion, leading all the way to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:59.3. Jason Ryan was at the lines of the Muscle Mass-I Am Special miss for trainer Paul Walker and owner Keith Coulter.

Silver Detector ($2.70) won the sole Prospect Series colt contest in a 6-1/4-length romp, stopping the clock in 2:00.3 for Samuel Fillion as the rain came down in droves. The son of Alarm Detector-Silver is trained by Jean-Francois Maguire for Silver Stables.

Flamboro Downs ended its card before the last two races due to heavy rain and lightning in the area.
