Driver Bob McClure was red-hot on Monday (Sept. 22) at Woodbine Mohawk Park, winning half of the 10-race card including the featured $23,000 conditioned trot with an equally as sharp What About Elmo.

After winning the second race with P L Spencer ($6.30, 1:52.4), McClure reeled off four straight in races six through nine with Trouble With Names ($4.90, 1:55.3), Handsome Sabastian ($4.70, 1:53.4) and Shesamanalishi ($23.20, 1:55.1) before concluding the five-bagger with What About Elmo in the ninth.

Leaving from the outside post six in the non-winners of $16,000 in their last four, McClure wasted no time getting the 2-5 favourite on top, reaching the quarter first in a sizzling :26.4. Sid The Kid (Doug McNair) popped the pocket just past the quarter, assuming command from the favourite while reaching the halfway point in :56.2. The tempo picked up on the far turn with the lead duo beginning to separate from remainder of the field at three-quarters in 1:24.4.

Sid The Kid brought the sextet into the lane while What About Elmo revved up from the pocket, ripping off the McNair helmet midway through the stretch. Motoring home in :27, What About Elmo surged in front of Sid The Kid late to cross the wire three parts of a length clear in 1:52.1. Safe Conduct (Chris Christoforou) rallied late for the show spot, 1-3/4 lengths back of the winner.

Trained by Paul Reid, What About Elmo has won 4 of 19 on the year, racking up $86,060 in 2025. Reid also co-owns the four-year-old gelded son of Il Sogno Dream-Erin Hall with Leonard Christopher, Jeffrey Nicol and Brian Kleinberg. What About Elmo no boasts a career bankroll of $351,698.

McClure's victory with Handsome Sebastian for trainer Cindy Horner was in the second $16,000 division of the first leg of a Pop-Up Series for trotters who have started for a purse of $12,000 or less in their last three. The first division on the evening went to Muscle Fashion (Jody Jamieson, $6.60), who was a wire-to-wire winner in 1:54.1 for trainer Katelyn Graham.
