Lavender Seelster Crushes In Grassroots

Lavender Seelster

Lavender Seelster topped a pair of Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots fifth-leg winners for driver Louis-Philippe Roy and trainer Dr. Ian Moore as she left her rivals behind in the second $25,000 division for rookie pacing fillies on Thursday, Sept. 18 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

The filly pushed to the front before the quarter in :27 and was in control throughout the rest of the mile. Chicanery (J.R. Plante) advanced first-over past the half in :56.2 and into range of the leader at three-quarters in 1:24.2, but Lavender Seelster turned her away and unleashed a :27.1 final quarter with Roy motionless in the bike to win by 5-1/2 lengths in a new mark of 1:51.3. Could Be Queen (Doug McNair) finished second, followed by No Better Air (Trevor Henry), who closed from last for third.

Lavender Seelster secured her first Grassroots win in the final preliminary leg and has won three of her past four starts. The Century Farroh-Lucapela filly is three-for-nine with $81,500 in earnings for Lavender Seelster Stable of Cambridge, Ont. She paid $2.90 to win.

Roy and Moore also combined to win the first $25,000 split for pacing colts and geldings with Odds On Bullfrog. The colt was parked out through the first three-eighths of a mile, advancing in the draft of Plankton Hanover (Trevor Henry) past the half in :26.2 before clearing that rival for the lead nearing the half in :55.1. Ryder Ross (McNair) marched out of sixth down the backstretch and went to battle with the leader past three-quarters in 1:24. It was down to those two in the stretch drive, and Odds On Bullfrog resisted his opponent to win by a half-length in a career-best 1:52. Windsun Tuxedo (Jody Jamieson) was third.

Odds On Bullfrog won his third straight race after starting his career winless in five tries. Odds On Racing of Boca Raton, Fla. owns the homebred son of Bulldog Hanover-Odds On Naples, who has now earned $41,810. The colt’s win price was $5.90.

Lyons Firstbulldog ($17.10) took the second split for colts and geldings in 1:52.1. Jonathan Drury piloted the Bulldog Hanover-Doinsomethingright colt for trainer Tony Beaton and owner Threelyonsracing.

Major Money ($29.10) held on after building a big lead to take the final division for males, stopping the clock in 1:52.2 for driver Travis Cullen. Nick Gallucci conditions Cattlewash-Our Hot Majorette homebred for Millar Farms.

Romantic Beauty ($2.40), driven by McNair, was a three-quarter-length winner in 1:51.4 in the first split for fillies. Gregg McNair trains the daughter of Bettors Delight-Precious Beauty for James Avritt Sr.

Following Thursday's racing, the Grassroots regular season is complete. The finals are set for Sept. 27 at Mohawk.

Blinded By Delight ($4) captured the $30,000 Pop-Up Series Final, winning in 1:51.4 with Tyler Borth at the lines. The series is for pacing fillies and mares that started for a purse of $12,000 or less in their prior start or had not earned $25,000 in a minimum of 10 starts in 2025.
