Red Righthand Man N Shatters Northville Record

Red Righthand Man N

Red Righthand Man N, a newcomer to Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center in Hastings, Mich., demolished the all-age track record by a full second in the co-featured $15,278 Open Pace on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

After a wild start to the race with a multitude of leavers, Born Wild (David Lake) grabbed command and put up the first three fractions in :28.1, :57.3, 1:26.3 while Red Righthand Man N sat in pocket position. But as they came into the stretch, driver Kody Massey pulled the right line and sent Red Righthand Man N past the pacesetter to win going away by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:55. Born Wild finished second with Rb (Ty Goodell) five further lengths back.

The clocking established a new overall track record, besting the 1:56 mark set by Bet Mine on Sept. 3. He also set new standard for an aged pacing gelding, one race after Two Birds Onestone matched the 1:56.3 record held by Catch Me Conrad.

Red Righthand Man N shipped in from Pocono Downs for owner Oldford Racing LLC. The son of Art Major-Lets Go Cullen is now trained by Allen Sisco. He established his 14th career win in 89 starts and returned $3.20.

In the fifth-race $15,278 Fillies and Mares Open Pace, Rock Ur Wings circled the field in the lane to set a new record for a four-year-old pacing mare. She was fourth through :27.4, :57.3, and 1:26.2 fractions for Goodell and unleashed a big kick down the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length over Pair of Hardts (Charles Taylor) in 1:56.2. Joyful Lady (Lake) completed the ticket. Pair Of Hardts was the previous record holder with a clocking of 1:57.

Rock Ur Wings ($5.20), owned by Marjorie Deshetsky, won for the ninth time in 66 career outings. Kent Hess trains the daughter of Racing Hill-Momma Rock.

In the 9th race, the $15,278 Open Trot, Rankin (Kody Massey) came from off the pace to win by a half-length over Kings Sweetheart (David Lake) in 1:59.1. He was fourth to the quarter in :29 and moved outside at the half in :59.1, working his way to the top by three-quarters in 1:28.3 and out-duelling Kings Sweetheart for the victory. Echos Gq (Don Harmon) was third. With the mile, Rankin knocked four-fifths of a second off his own record for a four-year-old trotting gelding.

Rankin ($4.80), a son of Enterprise-Luvyaformiles, is trained by owner-breeder Judy Roegner. He is 25-for-58 lifetime.

Goodell and Massey led all drivers on the day with two wins.

Racing resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 23 and Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Northville Downs with a first-race post time of 1 p.m. each day.
