Pat Bissett sent out three winners from his stable to wrap up his third straight training title at Clinton Raceway as the 2025 meet came to a close on Sunday, Sept. 14 while Travis Henry ran away with the local driving title.

Three-year-old pacing filly Phosphorus ($41.20) and older pacers Odds On Kickoff ($34.20) and Axel Bovine ($21.10) -- all driven by Lorne House -- put the finishes touches on Bissett's successful meet. The Goderich, Ont. horseman defended his training title with a total of 14 wins, followed by Riley Simpson (nine wins) and Lindsey Kerr (seven wins).

With a final win on closing day in rein to the Simpson-trained Little T ($2.40), Henry, co-winner of Clinton Raceway’s annual Charity Driver's Challenge two weeks ago, ended with a total of 34 wins at the Huron County oval through the 15-week season. Daryl Thiessen drove three winners on Sunday while Lorne House drove four to victory lane and ended in a tie for second place, each bringing their wins totals for the meet 17.

The Kerr-trained Prestige Seelster ($2.20) headlined the $5,000 Preferred 3 Handicap Pace featured on the afternoon's 10-race program, leading wire-to-wire in 1:56.3 for his 40th career win with Thiessen in the sulky. Kerr also co-owns the nine-year-old Sunshine Beach-Pantecostal gelding with Sally Charlton of Tecumseh, Ont.

A Pop-Up Series for trotters concluded with trainer Steve Watson's Peter Crown ($6) and Thiessen keeping all challengers at bay in the $7,500 final, winning in 2:03.4 by a half-length at the end over Jewels Cup and House.

House turned the tables on Thiessen in the $5,000 consolation, with his own trainee HA Code Red ($5.20) scoring in 2:02.1 over the Thiessen-driven Ionia, who chased 3-1/2 lengths behind.

The series was for non-winners of $1,500 (fillies & mares $1,875) in their last three starts or non-winners of $2,500 (fillies & mares $3,125) in their last five starts, with $9,500 claimers also eligible.

The final race card of the season was filled with meaningful moments, as races were held in memory of loved ones past, with emotional presentations made in the winner's circle throughout the day.

The grand prize draw for Clinton Raceway’s month-long Bet Exotic Promotion was held. Dozens of qualifiers gathered in anticipation, but it was Darryl Rattray of Exeter, Ont. who walked away with the top prize – a $3,000 travel voucher.

The final Day at the Races Fundraiser was hosted in support of the Goderich Track Rebuild project at GDCI. A dedicated group of organizers were on site for the event, raising $5,500 toward the resurfacing of the school’s athletic track.

Clinton Raceway would like to thank its fans, sponsors, volunteers and the racing community for another unforgettable season. Planning is already underway for the 2026 campaign.
