Risin Horizon Rises To The Top At Inverness

Risin Horizon winning at Inverness Raceway

Truro Raceway regular Risin Horizon took on the top pacers at Inverness Raceway on Sunday, Sept. 14 and led all the way in the Winners Over Handicap Pace.

With the inside post advantage in the afternoon's $2,000 featured finale, 4-5 favourite Risin Horizon and catch-driver Keith Legge jumped out to a quick lead and had the field of seven stretched out through a :28.3 first quarter. The seven-year-old Vertical Horizon-Raritan gelding raced on to the half in :58 with Shir Gain (Rodney Gillis) advancing from the back to offer a challenge through three-quarters in 1:28.4. Digging in down the stretch, Risin Horizon pulled clear of a four-across fight for the runner-up honours as Shir Gain had company 1-3/4 lengths behind the 1:57.4 winner and was edged out in the place photo by pocket-sitter La Playa Deo (Andrew MacLean) at the inside. Bettie White (Zachary Mullins) split horses through the lane getting fourth over last week's winner Whats Up Doc (Redmond Doucet), who closed off cover.

Trained by Gardner McCallum, Risin Horizon earned his second win of the season in 19 starts to go along with nine other top three finishes for the Wont Back Down Stable of North River, N.S. The 16-time career winner sits just shy of $50,000 in purse earnings.

Risin Horizon improved to two-for-four competing at the Inverness oval and paid $3.90 to win.
