Global News Gets The Scoop At Hiawatha

Global News

Global News towered over her $5,200 Preferred 3 Handicap Trot foes on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Hiawatha Horse Park for her second straight victory against open company at the Sarnia, Ont. oval.

She was handed post seven and dropped back as the wings folded, but driver Garrett Rooney was determined to get the front and sent her on a long forward journey to take over past the quarter in :28.3. The parked-out Coming Fashion (Don Rankin) advanced on her back, but Global News turned her away past the half in :57.4 and was in command to three-quarters in 1:26.4. Rooney needed not lift a line down the stretch as Global News sailed to a three-length victory in 1:56.4. Pocket-sitter Classy Guy (Nick Steward) held second over Monteverdi (Andy Moore).

Global News has won three of her past four starts at the Preferred 3 level at Hiawatha, and she is now six-for-22 this year. Angie Carroll of Iona, Ont. owns and trains the six-year-old daughter of Archangel-Going Global. The mare has amassed 23 lifetime wins and $141,709 in earnings in 112 starts. She returned $6.80 to win.
