Grand Circuit Racing Kicks Off At Delaware Sunday

Harness racing at Delaware Country Fairgrounds

Two $72,250 USD divisions of the Ohio Breeders Championship (OBC) for two-year-old filly pacers will feature on opening day of the five-day Delaware County Fair meet on Sunday, Sept. 14.

The first division will be a rematch between Laude Da (Chris Page) and Stride For Stride (Justin Irvine).

Laude Da, a homebred daughter of Summa Cum Laude-Real Diva, has won $77,787 for Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, and Knox Services Inc. She is trained by Ron Burke.

Stride For Stride is co-owned by trainer Garry Martin, B. Kleinberg Racing LLC, and Lee Unkefer. The Lather Up-Serene Stride lass has only finished off the board in one of seven starts.

Laude Da defeated Stride For Stride by a nose in their last start – the final leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Sept. 6. Laude Da is favoured at 9-5, with Stride For Stride coming in at 3-1 on the morning line.

The second division is headed by Zooom Call (Dan Noble). The Summa Cum Laude-Rememberthedragon filly remains a maiden but has earned cheques in each of her eight starts. She has made $88,825 for Jay Mossbarger, Hutchison Harness LLC, Brent Hopper, and SCP Stable Inc. The Steve Carter trainee got a 2-1 morning-line billing. Second choice is Ima Beach Girl (Chris Lems) at 5-2.

Twelve entries forced two $17,550 USD divisions of the OBC for aged trotters in a ‘battle of the sexes.’ The first division will feature Sugar Instead (Tyler Smith), the lone mare, taking on the boys. The second split has three mares: Jurassic Hattie (Brett Miller), Refined (Chris Page) and Sandis Commando L (Hank Le Van).

Race 2 will be the $32,500 USD OBC for aged pacers. The event only drew three entries, but two are standouts.

The 2021 Ohio Horse of the Year Charlie May (Brett Miller) will leave from post two. The seven-year-old gelded son of Mcardle-Stipple Hanover is owned by Don Tiger and has earned just shy of $2.5 million lifetime with a mark of 1:47.1 taken in 2023.

Pariss Dragon (Dan Noble) drew the outside post. The Fear The Dragon-Lima Ooh La La gelding, trained by Terry Di Cicco, comes into the event with a streak of seven straight first- or second-place finishes. His lifetime mark of 1:49.1 was taken earlier this year at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

Sunday’s 20-race card will have three races for amateur drivers. Two divisions of the Great Lakes Amateur Driving Association events will be held, along with the $5,000 USD Tim Fouts Memorial Standardbred Driving Final. The Fouts Memorial brings together representatives from the nation’s top amateur driving clubs and honours the former Presiding Judge at the Delaware County Fair.

The Sunday Pick Four will feature a $5,000 guaranteed pool. The segment will include Races 17 through 20. Past performance pages will be available, free of charge, at LittleBrownJug.com.

A majority of the Jug Day (Thursday, Sept. 18) card can be seen on Fox Sports 2 (FS2). The program will feature stakes races from 1-7 p.m.

Post time for the Jugette (Wednesday) and Jug Day (Thursday) cards will be at 11 a.m.
