Hubert Clouthier Celebrates First Driving Win

On Cruise Control winning at Hippodrome 3R

Alex Hubert Clouthier celebrated his first career driving win with a fist pump after the wire in the 10th race at Hippodrome 3R on Friday, Sept. 12.

Driving the Jocelyn Gendron-trained pacer On Cruise Control in a $3,250 race for amateur drivers, Hubert Clouthier left out for early pocket position. A three-wide battle ensued up front down the backstretch the final time, but the inside path opened up around the last turn for the 26-year-old horseman, who was able to shoot through with open road ahead, guiding 9-1 shot On Cruise Control to victory in 1:58.1 by 1-3/4 lengths over the wide-rallying Moonlightboy (Stephane Gagnon) while pacesetter Gringo Star (Pier Luc Lamy) levelled off in the stretch and finished six lengths back in third. On Cruise Control paid $21.70 for the upset win.

Hubert Clouthier earned his first victory in just his eighth start behind On Cruise Control. The Becancour, Que. reinsman also owns the 11-year-old Yankee Cruiser-Maewest Hanover gelding.
