Stevens Saloon Grinds To Harrington Victory

Rich Ashley and Michael Cain's Stevens Saloon ($23.80, Jason Thompson) was a 1:53 upset winner in the $25,000 Open at Harrington Raceway Monday.
The four-year-old Always B Miki gelding put together a strong stretch surge to notch his eighth win of the season over Itsrocknroll A (Allan Davis) and Rocknroll Lou (Ross Wolfenden).
Stevens Saloon got away sixth through a quarter of :27.2 with Rocknroll Lou cutting the fractions before Thompson wheeled Stevens Saloon first-over just prior to the half of :56.2. The long first-up grind continued into third at three-quarters behind Rocknroll Lou at the station in 1:24.3. Stevens Saloon proved relentless in the stretch, wearing down Rocknroll Lou late to score in 1:53. Itsrocknroll A got up along the cones to nail Rocknroll Lou for second.
Trained by Joe Hunderptfund Jr., Stevens Saloon has been in fine form, off seven straight finishes where he has been no worse than second. The same connections would strike one race later as Atoughnuttocrack (Thompson) was a 1:54.2 winner. Thompson drove three winners on the program.
Russell Foster and Allan Davis each had driving doubles.
Racing will continue on a Monday through Wednesday schedule (post time 4:30 p.m.).
