Super Chapter, Champagne Room Star In Kentucky Stakes

Super Chapter winning at The Red Mile

Defending Kentucky champion Super Chapter defeated Mr Mouton by a head in a stretch battle at The Red Mile on the "Sunday Night Lights" card, sponsored by Crawford Farms, on Sept. 7 while Champagne Room handled her competition leaving previous leg winners Looksgoodinloulou and favoured Unreasonable behind.

Each winner delivered top performances in the $111,111 fourth rounds of the Kentucky Championship Series for sophomore male trotters and filly pacers.

Rebounding from a miscue in the last leg, three-year-old trotting colt Super Chapter scored his hard-fought Kentucky Championship Series victory in 1:52.1 with regular reinsman Dexter Dunn driving for trainer Marcus Melander.

Te Quiero Lindy (Andy Miller) flew off the gate to establish a first fraction of :28.1 at 66-1 from post position five. Meanwhile, Super Chapter settled in third from post position two in the field of nine as Mr Mouton (Ake Svanstedt), a two-time winner in this series, took control at the half in :57.1 after leaving from the rail.

The top positions remained unchanged until the third quarter mark in 1:25.4, as Dunn gave Super Chapter the green light and the colt began to advance. The drive to the line was on and each horse did not disappoint.

Super Chapter was behind by a nose at the final bend and Mr Mouton exerted every effort to not allow him to go by. Super Chapter ultimately prevailed over an incredibly game rival in a :26.2 final quarter. Monserrate (Yannick Gingras) came home third at 35-1.

Super Chapter is a son of Chapter Seven and Lifetime Pursuit. The classic-winning colt is 7-1-0 in nine sophomore starts and 12-4-1 overall from 20 races. The colt paid $2.72 to win as the favourite.

Champagne Room pulled off the mild 9-1 upset in the three-year-old trotting filly division by blitzing a final quarter in :25.3 with Andrew McCarthy in the bike for trainer Noel Daley.

Champagne Room left from post position three in the field of six and resided in fourth position while Looksgoodinloulou  (Yannick Gingras) went right to the front. That leading filly set fractions of :28, :55.4 and 1:24 with favoured Unreasonable (Marcus Miller) laying in wait in second place.

Champagne Room pulled from fourth and threw down her big closing quarter to have her picture taken, winning by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:50.2. Her final frame was clocked a full second faster than the the runner-up's last quarter.

With David Miller at the controls in for Sunday's $20,833 division, favourite Whiskey Wow defeated Breakthrough (Andrew McCarthy) and Ake Palema (Scott Zeron) in a new lifetime mark of 1:52.1.

The other Golden Rod division for sophomore male trotters went to two-time Golden Rod winner Grande Via ($7.34) with Yannick Gingras in the bike for trainer Andrew Harris, who co-owns with New Jersey's Bill Pollock and Bruce Areman. The son of Muscle Hill-Megadolce completed the mile in 1:52.3 with You Dont Own Me (Todd McCarthy) and Ketel One Up (David Miller) more than five lengths behind him.
