Favourites Dominate Clinton Pop-Up Series

The bettors were spot on in their Pop-Up Series selections as the favourites performed as expected in all three $5,000 divisions of a preliminary leg at Clinton Raceway on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 7.
Driver Travis Henry reined home two winning trotters in the prelims, guiding the eight-year-old mare Oh Lina ($3) to a 2:02.2 victory in the opening division for conditioner Pat Rouleau and later scoring with trainer Steve Watson's eight-year-old gelding Peter Crown ($2.60) in 2:03.2. Both won their respective divisions by 3-1/2 lengths, with Oh Lina trotting by front-stepper Spun From Magic in the stretch and Peter Crown making his winning move early by looping to the lead in the first quarter.
Lorne House drove the favoured four-year-old mare Jewels Cup ($3.20) in the other division, moving to the lead in the third panel and opening up by half a dozen lengths to top a scratch-reduced field of four in 2:03.1 for trainer Pam Forgie.
The series is for non-winners of $1,500 (fillies & mares $1,875) in their last three starts or non-winners of $2,500 (fillies & mares $3,125) in their last five starts, with $9,500 claimers also eligible. The final and consolation will be held during Clinton Raceway's meet-closing card next Sunday, Sept. 14.
