Johnny Buckshot

Johnny Buckshot headlined the first card of the meet at Flamboro Downs on Thursday, Sept. 4, going gate-to-wire in the $10,000 featured conditioned trot.

Johnny Buckshot, starting from post five, fired off the car to beat two leavers to his outside into the first turn and trotted the opening quarter in :28.1 for Garrett Rooney. He led to the half in :58 and defended against the first-up bid of Deliciousstone Dk (Austin Sorrie), who pushed up to his wheel at three-quarters in 1:26.2. Johnny Buckshot shed the challenger as they came around the final turn, and he built his lead to three lengths as he reached the line in 1:55.3. A tough Deliciousstone Dk held second over Marvin Hagler (Brett MacDonald).

Johnny Buckshot, a six-year-old son of Il Sogno Dream-Third Avenue, is now 19-for-71 lifetime with $160,427 in earnings. Katie MacNeil trains him for Brad Wilson of Camlachie, Ont. He returned $7.90 to win.

Crossroader ($3.70) won the first race of the season in 2:00.4 for driver Dave Boughton and trainer Don Lindsey.
