The Race Is On For 'Win A Share' Finalists

The excitement of harness racing is about to become very real for a group of Standardbred Canada Junior Members. After a remarkable response at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), nine young racing fans are getting the chance to live out every horse lover’s dream — to step into the winner’s circle as an owner.
The Win a Share in a Racehorse contest, presented in partnership with Landmark Racing Stable, will turn one Junior Member into the proud owner of a $2,000 share in the Landmark 19 Racing Stable. From race day excitement to behind-the-scenes access, the winner will experience the sport like never before.
On Friday, Sept. 5, during Ontario Racing Kids’ Day Camp at Grand River Raceway, nine finalists will take centre stage. Each will randomly select a number from one through nine, linked to the horses in Race 2 of the card. As the horses thunder down the stretch, anticipation will build, and when the dust settles, one Junior Member will see their horse cross the wire first, earning them the coveted ownership share.
The opportunity of horse ownership comes with exclusive owner privileges — including stable visits, race day experiences, and regular updates on the progress of their yearlings. Beyond the winner’s prize, all Junior Members will enjoy educational and immersive experiences designed to deepen their love of the sport.
On Saturday, Sept. 13, members will take part in a guided tour of Winbak Farm of Canada, learning firsthand about the breeding foundation of the sport and meeting the stars of tomorrow. On Sunday, Sept. 28, they’ll visit First Line Training Centre, where racehorses hone their skills before stepping onto the track.
Together, these experiences promise not only fun, but a true insider’s perspective on the world of harness racing.
“We’re thrilled with the incredible response that Standardbred Canada and harness racing received at the CNE,” said Darryl Kaplan, President and CEO of Standardbred Canada. “Our SC team introduced thousands to the sport and signed up new Junior Members as part of our commitment to help young people find a real long-term pathway in our industry.”
Entries for the contest closed on Sept. 1, and the finalists were drawn on Sept. 2.
