Bet Mine Breaks All-Age Northville Record

Bet Mine

Bet Mine, with leading driver Kody Massey in tow, set the newest all-time track record at Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center while also establishing a new mark for an aged pacing stallion on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Just as the rain started to fall, Massey powered the seven-year-old to the front from post seven. With each pylon they passed, Bet Mine opened up more ground on the pocket sitter Admiral Adam (Kim Pluta), putting up fractions of :28.2, :57.4, and 1:26.2 and a final clocking of 1:56 with a final quarter in :29.3. Bet Mine won by a five-length margin over Admiral Adam with Skyway Rockatop (John Moody) third.

Bet Mine, a seven-year-old by Betting Line-Pleasant Yet Bad, is owned by Robert Silberberg and trained by James Eaton. The win marked the second victory in a row for Bet Mine, who shipped in from Hoosier Park, where he set his 1:50.1 lifetime mark as a five-year-old. Bet Mine’s lifetime earnings grew to $339,360, and he now has 25 wins in 157 starts. He paid $3.80 to win.

In the final race on the program, a rain-soaked track listed as sloppy did not stop Kamari Blu ($13.20) from setting a new track record for a three-year-old pacing filly. Driver/trainer Daryl Bontrager took Kamari Blu back early off of the pace, getting away in sixth, some nine lengths back at the quarter pole in :29. Kamari Blu was able to slide up the pegs as horses moved off the rail past the half in :58.3, but as they arrived at the three-quarter pole in 1:28, Bontrager guided Kamari Blu outside. And when they came through the stretch, Kamari Blu flew past the tiring horses while in the four path to win by a half-length in 2:00. Mr Pnut (Art McIlmurray) finished second, followed by Dandys World (Cameron Kina).

Kamari Blu, who nabbed her fifth career score while also shipping in from Hoosier Park, is owned by Levi Schmucker. The daughter of Captaintreacherous-Hen Party has earned $75,830 in 24 career outings.

Catch Me Conrad ($11.60) won back-to-back top paces at Northville with a 1:57.2 victory in the $15,068 Open Handicap Pace. Driven by McIlmurray, he set the tempo of :28.1, :57.4, and 1:27.4 and was 3-1/2 lengths the best over Sweet Oliver (Ed Hennessey), who reached past Rb (Ty Goodell) for place. Catch Me Conrad, a nine-year-old Tellitlikeitis-Envy gelding, is trained and owned by Greg Cook. He is now 70-for-253 lifetime and has banked $428,900.

Massey led all drivers with three victories on the afternoon. Pluta took two wins.
