Capt Jack Hanover Cruises In Vernon Open

It was smooth sailing from a pocket trip for Capt Jack Hanover ($4.70), who cruised to a dominant victory in the $11,643 Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Monday, Sept. 1.
Primo Uomo (Chris Long) led to the quarter easily in :26.2 as Capt Jack Hanover settled in the pocket for trainer/driver John MacDonald. Primo Uomo used a :28.2 second quarter as he sped to the half in :54.4 and remained in control around the final turn before bringing the field to three-quarters in 1:23.3. As they reached the stretch, Capt Jack Hanover made his move first-over and he blew right on by to stop the clock at 1:51.3. It was 3-3/4 lengths back to Primo Uomo, who had to settle for second-place money, while Syracuse Express (Adam Capizzano) finished third.
Capt Jack Hanover is a seven-year-old gelding by Captaintreacherous out of the Western Ideal mare, Current Hanover. He is owned by Michael Kessler, Speed to Burn Racing and trainer MacDonald. The win was his 14th this season in 26 starts and the 37th victory of his career.
John MacDonald and Chris Long had driving triples on the day to lead that category, while Gary Levine had a training double.
Live harness racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday, Sept. 5, with a post time of 3 p.m.
