Prestidigitator Nears Return

Prestidigitator, last year’s Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final winner, is expected to qualify in the coming weeks for trainer Dustin Jones

.

A winner of $320,672 last season, the sophomore son of Kadabra boasts a record of 4-2-1 from 11 starts for owner Ecurie Synergie.

Last Friday (May 4), Prestidigitator trained a mile in 2:05 at Mohawk Racetrack with regular pilot Sylvain Filion in the bike.

“Sylvain really liked him,” Jones told the Woodbine Entertainment Group's media department. “That’s the first time he sat behind him since the (OSS) Super Final and he said everything was 'A-okay.'”

Prestidigitator, who was a $120,00 yearling purchase from the 2010 Harrisburg Yearling Sale, found his best stride late in the season with a third-place effort in his Breeders Crown elimination, followed up with a fourth-place finish in the Breeders Crown after being parked the entire mile.

Then, he capped off his rookie campaign with an eight and a quarter-length victory in his OSS Super Final, where he recorded his 1:56.3 lifetime mark.

The bay colt has been paid into Grand Circuit events such as the Hambletonian, Canadian Trotting Classic, Breeders Crown, Goodtimes Trot and Yonkers Trot, just to name a few.

Jones also said that Prestidigitator might not be ready for his first major test of the season, the $350,000 Goodtimes Trot, slated for June 16 at Mohawk.
