Windemere Best Man Wires Winners Over Rivals

Windemere Best Man

Windemere Best Man proved best in the Winners Over Pace at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday, Aug. 26, upsetting at 4-1 in the five-horse featured event.

The gelding motored away from post two for Danny Gillis in the $2,000 event and struck the lead quickly with :28.2 speed to the first station. He got a :58.2 half before odds-on favourite Bettie White (Zach Mullins) started up from third, but that rival never threatened and backed down before three-quarters in 1:28.1. Windemere Best Man was left all alone on the final turn, and, though tiring late, he held off the closing Shir Gain (Rod Gillis) to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:57.4. Whats Up Doc (Redmond Doucet) was third.

Windemere Best Man has won two straight Winners Overs at Inverness — separated by three races at Charlottetown earlier this month in which he did not earn a cheque. The gelding is now five-for-14 this year for Gillis, who trains him and partners in ownership with Beverley McIsaac of Fairview, P.E.I. The seven-year-old son of Malicious-Art Blanche has now won 25 of 114 lifetime starts and earned $49,651.
