Stash The Cookies Back On Top At Century Downs

Stash The Cookies

Stash The Cookies avenged her loss last out to Grey Sea, flipping the script on that mare with a half-length victory in the $16,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace at Century Downs on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

She was pocketed by the hard-leaving Goodbye Ceia Later (Phil Giesbrecht), a two-time Preferred winner this year, before circling to the engine after a :27.2 opening split. Stash The Cookies was unrivaled to the half in :55.3, and she pulled away to a four-length advantage at three-quarters in 1:24.1 for Brandon Campbell, who urged her along through the final turn with Grey Sea (Kelly Hoerdt) and Byby Baby Byby (Mike Hennessy) inching closer.

Grey Sea led the charge as the chasing pair surged down the stretch, but Stash The Cookies was wrapped up in deep-stretch and made it home in front in 1:53.3. Grey Sea held off By Baby Byby for second. The win price was $3.90.

Stash The Cookies, trained by John Chappell, is now five-for-12 this year. Alberta’s champion aged mare of 2024 tallied her 46th career victory while raising her earnings to $465,784 in her 129th start. Derek Gilbert of Brandon, Man. owns the nine-year-old daughter of Sunfire Blue Chip-Saucy B.
