Seven Straight For New Plan Stan In Dead Heat

New Plan Stan and Chip Of The South were inseparable at the line in the first of two $14,319 Michigan Sire Stakes divisions for sophomore colt trotters, with the former extending his winning streak to seven in the joint victory at Northville Downs at the Barry Expo Center on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
New Plan Stan, driven and trained by Greg Bateson, cut the early fractions of :32.3 and 1:07.1 but came under fire from pocket-sitter Chip of the South (Rick Dobson) through three-quarters in 1:39.1. New Plan Stan held his half-length lead into the stretch, but Chip Of The South reached up to match his rival on the line for a dead heat in 2:08.2. Bandsrompawaykid (David Lake) was 12 lengths behind in third.
New Plan Stan has won seven straight races, with the prior six coming in Michigan fair events. The son of Musclesprinctonian-Vegas Sunset is a 13-time winner in 19 career outings for Bateson, who co-owns the gelding with Ernest Ayers. He is seven-for-10 this year.
Chip Of The South is trained by Monica Krist and owned by Dobson, Teresa Marotta, and Melissa Kesler. The gelding, by Bourbon Chip-Belle Of The South, is now eight-for-21 lifetime with four wins in nine tries in 2025. Both winners returned $2.10.
Hardt Of A King also added to his spell of success on the card with his sixth consecutive victory in the first $14,319 split for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings. He got every call, putting up :29.2, 1:01.3, and 1:30.4 fractions in a two-length victory in 2:00.4 with Brad Kramer manning the reins. Blue Eyed Bondi (Dan Harmon) was second, followed far back by Heavenly Hero (Justin Irvine).
Hardt Of A King ($2.60) is now six-for-seven in his three-year-old campaign for owner-trainer Kelly Goodwin. The Manhardt-Earheart Hanover gelding tallied his 10th victory in 19 lifetime appearances.
Uallgonnamakemeloo ($7.20) won the second three-year-old colt pace division in 2:03 for driver-trainer LeWayne Miller. The Bondi Hanover-Wind Squall gelding is owned by Rockstar Meadows.
Jm Rigs ($3.20) overcame a break before the start and closed late for trainer-driver Justin Irvine to take the second sophomore trotting colt split in 2:08.2. Jm Rigs, by Big Rigs-Filly Bay, is owned in partnership by Irvine and Jessica Otten.
Westwinds Pegasus ($2.20) unfurled her wings and thumped her rivals in the second $14,194 division for three-year-old trotting distaffs in 2:02.4. The Celebrity Pegasus-Keep The Cash filly is trained and driven by LeWayne Miller, who co-owns her with Platinum Stables.
Capella Star ($2.40), a daughter of Big Rigs-Dreamy Secret, took the first filly trot division in 2:05 for owner/trainer/driver Lavern Miller.
Driver Ty Goodell earned his first pari-mutuel win in the second race behind Precious Cat, who forged to the front down the lane for a 2:05.1 win at 10-1. The four-year-old Freaky Feet Pete-Precious Gracie mare is trained by Sam Eicher for owners Carolyn and Frederick Shiery. Goodell, a resident of Jackson, Mich., had accumulated a record of 10 wins in 47 starts at the fair tracks before his pari-mutuel debut on Tuesday. The sophomore reinsman is now 11-for-50 overall.
