Medley Seelster Leads Grand River Grassroots Winners

Medley Seelster winning at Grand River Raceway

The fourth leg of the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Series for sophomore trotting fillies was contested on Wednesday, Aug. 13 with a trio of $25,000 divisions at Grand River Raceway, where Medley Seelster made her three-year-old debut in style with a 1:55.3 victory in the quickest split.

Louis-Philippe Roy had the assignment on the 2-1 second choice, who left from post five in the field of seven. Roy sent Medley Seelster to the top through an opening quarter of :27.3 before being covered up by Trudybird (Bob McClure) at the half in :56.3. Medley Seelster stalked from the pocket at three-quarters in 1:25.4 before angling out at the top of the lane and sneaking by Trudybird by a neck on the wire, with Shampoo Girl (Jason Ryan) finishing in third.

Trained by Blake MacIntosh for owners Tim Klemencic, Clancy Farms and Glenn Dyke, Medley Seelster returned off a two-year-old campaign in which she won four of 12, including a pair of OSS Gold splits, and banked $187,721. The victory in her three-year-old debut matched the career best for the daughter of Wheeling N Dealin-Daylon Melody and pushed her career earnings over $200,000.

The first two splits of Grassroots action went to Oceanview Rumours (Bob McClure, $3.70) in 1:57.3 for trainer Shane Arsenault and The Green Book (Trevor Henry, $17.30) in 1:58 for trainer Shannon Henry.
