Trotting Prowess On Display At Charlottetown

Trotters were out in full force in Atlantic Sires Stakes action on Wednesday, Aug. 13 during Old Home Week at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Little Louis ($2.10) and driver Corey MacPherson won a $13,380 Atlantic Sires Stakes division for two-year-old trotters in 2:04 over Emberlees Rocket (Marc Campbell) and Hoponarocket (Mike McGuigan). Kuri White trains the homebred son of E L Rocket-Go With Her for owner East Coast Captains of Cornwall, P.E.I. Little Louis has now won three (consecutive) races in his first four starts.

Big Rig ($29) was upset bound in the other $13,380 two-year-old trot contest for trainer/driver Mike McGuigan and owners Jamie Whalen of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. and Owen McGuigan of Pleasant Grove, P.E.I. Breaking his maiden in his fifth start, the son of E L Rocket-Ginger Glide won in 2:04 over West River Karuna (Ken MacDonald) and Bonmati (Corey MacPherson).

Oceanview Nikki ($2.10) was a confident winner in the $12,900 Atlantic Sires Stakes three-year-old trot for trainer/driver Mike McGuigan and P.E.I. owners Blue Diamond Racing of Emyvale, Josh MacDonald of Little Pond and Gordon Coles of Charlottetown. Marcus Down Ridge (Clare MacDonald) snagged second with Dusty Lane Kahlua (Ryan Desroche) third. The time of the mile was 2:00.2. In seven starts this year, the E L Rocket-King Kong Kate filly has won three times -- all in Sires Stakes action.

The second $12,900 sophomore trot split went to West River Jet ($3.20) in line to Ken MacDonald in a 1:59.1 mile for trainer Clare MacDonald and owner Haley MacDonald of Stratford, P.E.I. Supreme Rockette (Mike McGuigan) and My Pocket Rocket (Ken Murphy) filled out the triactor. A son of E L Titan out of Kaddys Angel, the reigning divisional champion is three-for-five this year.

In overnight action, The Parkdale Homecoming Pace in race one went to Serenity Now ($2.40) in 2:00 for driver Jason Hughes and trainer Ashley Gamester.

We Danced Anyway ($3.40) won the Maryjane Arsenault Memorial in race three in 1:57.1 with David Dowling in the seat for trainer Dwane MacEachern.

The Joe Smallwood Memorial in race four was won by Longblacklimousine ($2.20) in 2:02.3 with Paul Langille steering for trainer Tammy Collings.

Ubettimagoodone ($3.60) and trainer/driver Jaycob Sweet hit the wire first in the Roddy & Phyllis MacLeod Memorial in race five with a 1:58.4 mile.

The Confederation M&A Pace in race seven had driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Ron Matheson team up with Outrageous Song ($3.40) for a 1:57.2 score.

Majian Salsa ($9.90) was the best in the Rocket Chief Harvey & Randy MacEachern Memorial in race nine for trainer/driver Jim Ripley prevailing in 2:00.4.

The Angus & Buddy MacKenzie Memorial in race 10 went to First Glance ($6) in a front-running 1:55.3 effort for driver Langille and trainer Devon Wallace.

The PC Party of PEI Pace in race 12 ended the program as Lady Devine ($2.70) won in 1:56 with Dowling driving for conditioner Jennifer Doyle.

Live harness racing continues on Thursday evening at 6 p.m., with the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts.
