Windemere Best Man Back On Top At Inverness

Windemere Best Man earned his second straight victory in just four days as he stepped back up to the top Winners Over class at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday evening, July 30.
Coming off a season's best 1:57.3 victory on Sunday, Windemere Best Man was a repeat wire-to-wire winner, this time topping a short field of five in a 1:59.4 mile. With a quick-leaving move off the gate, trainer/driver Danny Gillis secured the lead and guided his recently acquired pacer through panels of :29.4, 1:01.1 and 1:31.2 en route to another 2-1/2-length victory.
Windemere Best Man has now won three of his five starts since being acquired earlier this month by Gillis and co-owner Beverley McIsaac of Fairview, P.E.I.
Eastcoast Invader (Monica Sutherland), who was unable to catch Windemere Best Man on Sunday finishing third, closed well to take the runner-up honours here in a tight finish over Lofty Shadow (Redmond Doucet). The pocket-sitting favourite, Light My Shadow (Zach Mullins), was fourth in the field with one breaker.
Windemere Best Man, who started his seven-year-old campaign with a top-level victory, paid $8.20 to win at 3-1 odds. The gelded son of Malicious out of Art Blanche recorded his 24th career victory.
The race was named in memory of trainer/driver Raymond "Slim" Gillis, who also served as race secretary and track manager at Inverness Raceway.
